‘Black Hills’ starts slowly with simple synth keystrokes. Then comes the percussion before getting to the meat of the song that is reminiscent of music from Husky Rescue yet with Gardens & Villa’s distinctive vocal stylings. The sparse guitar strains are like the call of a wild animal in the woods, and the lyrics offer up a mystical, spiritual vibe.
“…oh and you know native bones mixed in the walls adobe bricks can make us scented wind and red clouds
sunlight through the blinds black hills, white nights
up on the mountain we climb watch as the seas rise so high we will be baptized just like before…”
After several listens ‘Black Hills’ grew and me and I was intrigued enough to listen to other samples from the album. Gardens & Villa is currently offering another free track (Orange Blossom) off their self-titled album. Its sound is quite different, but also good taken on its own merits. Check it out.

I’ve seen them twice in concert, and they sound even more amazing live! I love this album, and even my little boys like listening. Their sound is a little throw-back to the mid 80s. A little synth & nice guitars. Catchy Lyrics.
