Adorable but overpriced,
I’d struggled to find just the right charm bracelet and finally stumbled across this Liz Palacios piece. I was unfamiliar with this designer but the bracelet had everything I was looking for. Most charm bracelets I’ve recently seen are either made for the teen set, too large or jangly (I’m not into noisy jewelry which can be a challenge with charm bracelets), or too overtly bright or bling-blingy which IMO reads cheap. But this looked to be appropriate for my age, had lovely muted tones, and the tokens, beads, and charms not clownishly oversized. Yay!
The multiple strands/varied link sizes are on trend, the embellishments and charms are attached nicely, and the antiqued gold tones are beautiful and versatile enough to pair with many looks. But the price?! Yikes, I’m just not used to paying three figures for non-stamped metals. There’s no semi-precious anything, anywhere on this bracelet. It’s fairly well done and, if taken care of, appears will last several seasons. (Which is yet another challenge with charm bracelets as they so easily catch on things).
I wore it around the house to see how comfy it was and to debate if I should keep it…and the weight is great– substantial enough to feel like you’re sporting quality yet not so heavy it bogs you down. It’s perfectly dainty without being too demure; most importantly it doesn’t jingle jangle or clank too loudly. But the price issue kept nagging me due to what you actually get. Which really isn’t much. I ultimately opted to keep it though knowing I’ve paid less for larger sterling or opal or onyx pieces does annoy me. Oh well! I needed it for my collection so I sucked it up.
The one super negative beyond the price point is the lobster claw closure: it’s really flimsy compared to the rest of the bracelet. A quality clasp on any jewelry piece is essential. This one is unimpressive. As I mentioned earlier, the charms are well done so it’s a head scratcher as to why the clasp looks like it belongs on a far cheaper piece. I have casual “mall” jewelry from cheap designers like Lucky Brand, Nine West, etc., that have far superior/heftier closures.
Did I mention it’s REALLY cute? Le sigh. I’m such a sucker.
